Vaishno Devi Mata Mandir

Vaishno Devi mandir is the most sacred and holy temple dedicated to Goddess Shakti. Vaishno Devi is considered to be among the 52 Shakti Peethas that fell onto the earth after Lord Vishnu cut Goddess Sati Maa’s body into 108 peethas. The hand or the blessing peetha fell on to the planet Venus hence Goddess Sati is the ruler of planet Venus. Vaishno Devi temple is surrounded by beautiful mountains. The temple is located near Katra which is 45 km away from the city of Jammu. The bhawan or the mat aka darbar is located 13 km from the Katra city and requires steep climbing of the mountain to reach temple. It s located approximately 1900 metres from the sea level.

It is believed that Goddess Vaishnavi or Mata killed Bhairon Nath who had been following her constantly from her ashram in Trikuta hills. She beheaded Bahiron Nath outside the cave. The head of Bhairon Nath fell on a higher hill. Bhairon Nath asked Mata to forgive him. As a result she blessed him with a boon that every diety who would be worshipping her has to worship Bhairon Nath temple to have a successful and complete darshan of mata. Devotees today visit bhairon Nath temple situated above the Vaishno Devi temple for the effectiveness of their darshan.

While mata shed her human form and took the face of rocks and she immersed herself in meditation forever. This five and a half feet rock with pincles or faces is the roop Mata. Every devotee worships this mata to get her blessings.
